George D. Ramey, 73, North Vernon, passed away at 7:35 a.m., on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at the Columbus Regional Hospital.

A memorial service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m., on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Rev. Connie Barr will officiate. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Born on July 19, 1948, in North Vernon, George was the loving son of Thomas E. and Grace H. (Jines) Ramey Sr. He was united in marriage to Carol J. Clark on September 1, 1973 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. She survives.

After graduating High School, George went on to serve his country proudly in the Army from January 23, 1969 to January 27, 1971. He retired after 18 years with Cummins and also owned George Ramey Construction. George enjoyed drinking Pepsi, Alice Charmers Tractors, working puzzles and Patrolling the road on his golf cart. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, Carol Ramey of North Vernon, survivors include daughters, Shannon (Doug) Zohrlaut of North Vernon, and Catherine (David) Baurle of North Vernon; son, Grant (Julie) Ramey of North Vernon; grandchildren, Evan, Drew, and Reed Zohrlaut, Caitlin Dunham, Courtney Zohrlaut, Riley, Luke, and Landon Ramey, Blake Templeton, Ian, and Ava Baurle; great grandchildren, Charleigh and Parker Dunham; brothers, Tom, Raymond, and Rob Ramey all of North Vernon; sister, Kim Steltenpohl of Seymour.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Judy Scott; brother, Stanley Ramey.

Memorials can be made through the funeral home to the Hayden Elementary School.
