Mr. George Henry Duffitt

May 26, 1926 - March 18, 2009

George Henry Duffitt, 82, of Butlerville passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born May 26, 1926 in Elwood, Indiana, he was the son of the late Charles Albert and Gladys Creola Arbuckle Duffitt. He attended Elwood High School in Elwood, Indiana and later served in the U.S. Navy in World War II.

George worked at Alladin Industries and Haynes Stillite both of Alexandria, Indiana. He retired from Continental Can in Elwood, Indiana.

After retiring, he moved to his farm in Jennings County where he loved working on the farm, raising cattle, and enjoyed being surrounded by nature.

Mr. Duffitt is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rosanna Allen Duffitt, his son, George Allen (Deni), his brother Birchard (Rosalyn) of Lapel, Indiana, his sisters Dorothy Duffitt of Tuscon, Arizona and Colleen Tobin of St. Louis, Missouri. Also surviving are grandchildren, George Berry Duffitt (Amy) of Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, Zarah Duffitt and fiance (Tyler Hileman) of Indianapolis, Indiana and Zane Duffitt of Butlerville, Indiana and one great-grandaughter Lauren Duffitt of Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Charles, Robert and David.

Funeral Information

A funeral service will be held at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home on Saturday at 2:00 PM with Rev. Marvin Sweet officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Friday and from 1:00 PM until the time of the service on Saturday. Burial will be at Otter Creek Cemetery.
