Mr. Gene Wayne Browning

January 04, 1942 - July 24, 2015

Gene Wayne Browning, 73, of Bloomington, IN, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2015, at Indiana University Health Center in Bloomington.

Born January 4, 1942, in Cincinnati, OH, Gene was the son of the late William and Malinda Stanley. He married Lynette Basham on December 14, 1986. She survives.

Gene attended school in Indianapolis, and later served in the United States Navy from 1959 until 1964. When he returned to Indianapolis, he started the Indy Top Shop and was co-owner with Ray Walker. He was a long-time resident of Martinsville and worked for Tim Wilson Chevrolet-Buick, Sundowner Horse Trailers, and Indy RV Center until retirement in 2011. He enjoyed his retirement job as a Morgan County driver for senior services.

In addition to his wife, Lynette, survivors include a daughter, Mundi Metz of Bloomington; three sons, Charles "Chuck" Browning of Bloomington, Chad Browning of Panama City, FL, and Thomas Thompson of Martinsville; a brother, James Chernis of Cleveland, OH; cousin, Floyd Kehl of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Information

A graveside service was held at 11:45 a.m. on Monday, July 27, 2015, at Vernon Cemetery. Rev. Don Morris officiated. Pallbearers were Tom, Logan, Matthew and Anthony Thompson, Andy Warren, and Miles Miller.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to American Heart Association or Labre Indian School in Ashland, MT.
