Mr. Gary Ray French Sr.

February 03, 1943 - September 14, 2008

Gary Ray French, 65, of North Vernon, passed away Sunday, September 14, 2008 at his residence.
Born February 3, 1943 in Petersburg, IN, he was the son of Noble Clifton and Minnie Pauline Colgate French, they preceded him in death. He married Dolores Jane Worden in 1977 in Cloverdale, IN, she survives.
Mr. French served in the United States Navy for four years and the CB reserves for eight years. He retired from GM Truck and Bus Company in 1998 after 30 years of service. He was a charter member of Amvets 99 of Indianapolis, a member of the North Vernon Masonic Lodge #59, Murat Shrine Temple of Indianapolis, Scottish Rite of Terre Haute, Rolling Hills Shrine Club of North Vernon, VFW Post 2021, Amvets, Eagles, and the Moose, all of North Vernon. Mr. French was also a member of the American Legion of Seymour, the Legion of Honor of Indianapolis, UAW 23 of Indianapolis, and the USS Galveston CLG3 Association.
Mr. French is survived by his wife, Dolores of North Vernon, three children; Gary Jr. (Kathy) French of Cincinnati, OH, Scott (Monica) French of El Paso, TX, and Delynda "Denise" Fields of Napa, ID, four step-children; Albert Small Jr. of Indianapolis, Michael Keith Small of NV, Nancy Lorene (Arthur) Cunningham of Indianapolis, and Annette Dorene (Randy) Marnin of Indianapolis. Also surviving is a sister, Betty (Richard) Wyant of Vincennes, and three brothers; Michael French of Colorado Springs, Ronald Sr.(Jodi) French of Fairfield, TX, and James French of Indianapolis, eight grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, and thirteen step-great grandchildren.
Mr. French was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Terry French and one step-grandchild.

Funeral Information

Funeral services will 10 AM, Thursday, September 18, 2008 at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home with the Minister Don Thomas officiating. Entombment will be in the Floral Park Mausoleum in Indianapolis at 2 PM. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 4 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
