Frances "June" (Layman) Wynn, 80, of Seymour, formerly of North Vernon, passed away quietly June 24, 2008 at her home.
Born August 21, 1927 at her grandparents' home near Lovett, Indiana (Jennings County), she was the daughter of Charles Aiden and Clara Louise Scott Layman. She married Donald Calvin Wynn on June 23, 1946 who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Wynn graduated from Paris Crossing High School in 1945. She retired after managing the Jennings County Bureau of Motor Vehicles for many years during the 1970's and 1980's. Previously, she had worked several years at The First National Bank in North Vernon and worked as a beautician in her home in Commisky.
Mrs. Wynn was a member of the Jennings County Republican Party for almost fifty years. Throughout her life she felt it was important to take an active role in politics and public service. She served as the Jennings County Republican County Chairperson, Precinct Committeewoman, Delegate to the Republican State Convention, Legislative Advocate and a member of the State and Jennings County Republican Women's Club. She also served as a volunteer for the Republican State Central Committee.
She was an honorary retired member of the Psi Iota Xi sorority, having been active for 27 years. During this time, she served as president, secretary and treasurer. She also served as a Jennings County Library Board member, a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club, and a member of the First Baptist Church in North Vernon.
In 1988, Mrs. Wynn was the recipient of the prestigious "Sagamore of the Wabash" award and was honored at Indiana's Tribute to Women in Indianapolis.
Survivors include, five children: Gary (Lisa) Wynn of Greenfield, Donna Wynn of Carmel, Charles Brian (Marina) Wynn of Glenview, IL, Bruce (Susan) Wynn of Seymour, Brett (Mary Jo) Wynn of North Manchester, and fifteen grandchildren: Courtney, Thaddeus, Katie, and Matthew Wynn, Christopher Walsh, Milagro Gali, Rosa Gali, Maria Kazim, Nicholas and Ciara Wynn, Elizabeth and Eli Wynn, Blake, Emma and Kyle Wynn, three great-grandchildren: Halle Wynn, Troy Quintin Tolbert, and Aydin Alexander Kazim, and one brother: Niles (Brenda) Layman of South Carolina.
Mrs. Wynn was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Barbara Layman, and one brother, Keith Layman.
Funeral Information
The funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Friday, June 27, 2008 at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Brown and Tim Goodpastor officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM on Thursday and on Friday from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. Burial will be at Vernon Cemetery.
