Fabian A. McCammon, a beloved mother, grandmother, and devoted member of her community, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 22, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on April 6, 1931, in Jennings County, Faye lived a life rich in love, laughter, and compassion. She married William McCammon on July 7, 1950. He preceded her in death on December 28, 1982.
Faye was a cornerstone of her family, surviving by her cherished children: daughter Tina Updike, son Mike McCammon, son Patrick McCammon, and their respective spouses, Terri and Marci McCammon. She also leaves behind a legacy through her grandchildren: Erin McLeod, Tara Graham, Randi Adams, Joey McCammon, Kelly Hunt, Chelsea Updike, and Ryan Updike; great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. each of whom held a special place in her heart.
As a devoted homemaker, Faye nurtured not only her family but countless children in the community, running her own daycare business for many years. Her nurturing spirit extended to her time as a playground monitor at St. Mary's School, where she created a warm and welcoming environment for all. She always enjoyed feeding her squirrels and decorating her yard for holidays. She was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where her faith and dedication inspired many.
A fan of NASCAR, Faye found joy in the thrill of the races, cheering passionately from her living room. Faye also enjoyed listening to music on her favorite radio stations, The Mojo and The River. She was also known for her selflessness, serving as a caregiver to many throughout her life, always ready with a listening ear or a helping hand.
The community will gather to honor Fay's remarkable life with a visitation on Thursday, September 25, 2025, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Sawyer - Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service preceded by a Rosary Service at 3:30 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 10:30 AM, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Father Chris Craig will officiate.
Faye will be laid to rest at Vernon Cemetery following the Mass, where she will continue to be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering support for her loved ones. The family requests memorial donations be made to the Mark McCammon Memorial Scholarship Fund or St. Mary's School.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob Burgmeier, Anna (Hauersperger) Burgmeier; husband, William McCammon; son, Mark McCammon; son-in-law, Tom Updike; brothers, Laurence, Lester, Edwin, Roderick, and Monsenior Ambrose Burgmeier; sisters, Mildred Callahan, Freda Strange, Wilma Singer, Veronica Kelly, and Alma Hill; grandchildren, Joshua and Amy McCammon.
