Evelyn M. Hearne, 87, of North Vernon passed away at 4:14 PM on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital.
Born February 22, 1921 in Jennings County, Evelyn was the daughter of the late John Thomas and Jennifer Pearl Ellis Speer. She attended school at San Jacinto and later married William Eddie Hearne on July 28, 1936. He preceded her in death on February 18, 1980.
Mrs. Hearne was a retired beautician. She was a member of the North Vernon Christian Church. She enjoyed playing guitar, music, quilting, cooking, gardening, flowers, dancing, singing, and spending time with her family.
Evelyn is survived by a son, Donald (Janey) Hearne of North Vernon, two sisters, Betty Jo (George) Bryant and Shirley Lamaster of North Vernon, three grandchildren, Todd (Lisa) Hearne and Kirk (Kathy) Hearne of North Vernon and Kerry (Chris) Heilers of Scipio, five great-grandchildren, Drew and Molly Heilers and Lucy, Lawson, and Ellie Hearne all of North Vernon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, William Edward Hearne, five brothers, George, Clifford, Harold, Howard, and Wayne Speer, and three sisters, Doris "Dottie" Walters, Bernita Mattingly, and Geneva Buckley.
The family will wear red to the service in celebration of her life.
Funeral Information
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Tuesday October 14, 2008 at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home with the Rev. Gilbert Schreiber officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 8 PM and from 10 AM until the time of the service on Tuesday. Burial will be at the Vernon Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Community Foundation's Don Hearne Scholarship Fund through the funeral home.
