Mrs. Esther Brewer

January 27, 1937 - February 26, 2011

On February 26, 2011, Mrs. Esther (Essie) Marie Brewer passed at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was born on January 27, 1937 to Morris and Zelma Robertson in Shelbyville, Indiana. She graduated in 1955 from Shelbyville High School. Her siblings were Frances Taylor (Dayton, OH), Julia Joiner (Long Beach, CA), Morris Robertson (deceased) and Martha Watkins (deceased).

On January 20, 1957 she married Mr. Kenneth Lee Brewer, Sr. (deceased). Essie was a resident of North Vernon, Indiana for over fifty years. The fruit of their marriage produced four children, Kenneth Lee, Jr. (deceased), Brandon, Darrin and Falicia. All reside in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Essie retired from Muscatatuck State Developmental Center with thirty-two years of service. Her passion was helping those less fortunate than she. She was often described as a sweet woman willing to help anyone wanting to help themselves. She enjoyed her family and friends, a good game of euchre, crafts, reading, traveling and attended a few casinos.

Her pride and joy was her grandchildren, Tyler and Jami Brewer ( North Vernon), Joshua David (JD) and Tia Ozminkowski (Fort Wayne, Indiana), Travis and Jessica Brewer (Kansas), Daniel Brewer (Carmel, Indiana) Jessica Brewer (Carmel, Indiana) and Johnny Lee Crowell, III (Indianapolis, Indiana). She also has three loving daughter's in-law, Vickie Miller, Tracey Brewer and Doris Ann Brewer.

Essie was the matriarch of a family with strong roots. She raised her children to be educated, committed and to reach for their dreams. Her life and legacy will live on in each of her family members.

Funeral Information

A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Sawyer - Pickett Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Ellery officiating. Interment will be in Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday March 4, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
