Erma Thompson, 82, North Vernon, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at 12:30 p.m. at Jennings Healthcare Center.
Born August 12, 1927 in Mitchell, IN Erma was the daughter of Ira & Grace King Massey. She married Charles E. Thompson May 4, 1945. He preceded her in death November 6, 2007.
Mrs. Thompson was a member for First Christian Church, member of former Muscatatuck Country Club and Republican Women's Club. Erma was a well know local artist. She enjoyed Indiana University basketball, Cincinnati Reds baseball and spending time with her grandchildren. She was also a part owner of Thompson Motors for over fifty years.
She is survived by three sons, Terry (Judy) Thompson, Eric (Rayanne) Thompson, Tracy (Amy) Thompson all of North Vernon; two sisters, Lois Clarkson of North Vernon, Verga Lee Slaughter of East St. Louis; 8 grandchildren, Jonathan, Emily, Zachary, Joseph, Caitlin, Benjamin, Jacquelyn and Matthew Thompson; 7 step-grandchildren, Danielle, Jacqueline, Alexandra, Tucker, Garrett, Sadie and Levi Marsh; two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Bodhi Thompson.
Erma is proceeded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, Gordon and Carl Massey.
Funeral Information
A funeral service will be held at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 11:00 am. With the Rev. Anthony Sweeney officiating. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 PM Friday and from 10 AM until the time of the service on Saturday. Interment will be in Vernon Cemetery.
Donations Information
Memorials may be made to Jennings Villa, Grandville Johnson Bluegrass Festival Scholarship Fund through the Park Theater, or Hospice of Jennings County all through the funeral home.
