Ellen Burgmeier, 88, of North Vernon, passed away at 7:20 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Majestic Care of North Vernon.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Deacon Larry French will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the start of the service at the funeral home.

Born on August 23, 1935, in Jennings County, Ellen was the loving daughter of Laurence and Margaret (Lafferty) Burgmeier.

Ellen graduated from Franklin College and had been a teacher at Hayden and Scipio Elementary Schools. She had also worked for Social Services. Ellen was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and had been a nun from the age of 18 until she was 35 years old. She liked cats and loved her nieces and nephews dearly.

Left to cherish Ellen's memory are sisters, Ann (Jack) Williams of Hayden, Helena (Don) Miles of North Vernon, Peggy Scroggins of North Vernon; brother, Jay (Sharon) Burgmeier of North Vernon; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Laurence and Margret Burgmeier; sisters, Rita Luedeman, and Teresa Wilson; brother, Joe Burgmeier.

Memorial Donations can be made through the funeral home to the Alzheimer's Association.
