Mrs. Elizabeth Sawyer

Elizabeth Sawyer, 95, of Columbus and formerly of North Vernon, passed away at 8:05 AM, Sunday, February 1, 2009 at Willow Crossing Health & Rehabilitation Center in Columbus.

Born February 1, 1914 in Jennings County, Elizabeth was the daughter of the late Alvah and Margaret Becker Mills. She graduated in 1931 from San Jacinto High School. She later married Harold Sawyer on December 25, 1935. He preceded her in death on February 28, 1958.

Mrs. Sawyer was a member of Christ's Way Christian Church in North Vernon. She retired in 1984 from The Iron Clad Clothing Store and had been a past matron and fifty year member of the North Vernon Eastern Star #183.

Elizabeth is survived by a daughter, Margaret Ann Sawyer of Columbus, two grandchildren, Brian Sawyer of North Vernon and Marla Tebo of St. Louis, MO, and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Marvin Sawyer, a sister, Edith Stine, and five brothers, Earl, John, Emil, Gaylord, and Virgil Mills.

Funeral Information

A funeral service will be held at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home on Thursday, February 5, 2009 at 11 AM with Rev. Dan Denney officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4 to 8 PM and on Thursday from 10 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be at Vernon Cemetery.
