Edward M. Kreutzjans, 88, of North Vernon, passed away at 2:57 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Majestic Care of North Vernon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Rev. Jerry Byrd will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 15, 2023, with a Rosary Service being conducted at 3:30 p.m., at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service.
Born on September 4, 1935, in Jennings County, Edward was the loving son of Joseph H. and Margaret S. (Gasper) Kreutzjans. He was united in marriage to Sandra Miles on March 20, 1955. She survives.
Edward graduated from Vernon High School in 1954 where he played baseball and basketball. He owned and operated Kreutzjans Heating, Plumbing, and Electrical. He also built homes, farmed and drove a school bus. Edward served in the National Guard for six years. He was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Edward also served as the Center Township Trustee for eight years. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, camping, restoring antique tractors, attending his grandchildren's activities and sporting events.
In addition to his loving wife, Sandra Kreutzjans of North Vernon, survivors include daughters, Cathy (John) Hyden, Patti (Steve) Litzy, Julie (Jon) Webster, and Debbie (Brian) Hatfield all of North Vernon; son, Jim (Janet) Kreutzjans of Columbus; grandchildren, George, Ben, Eddie, and John Paul Hyden, Randi Shepherd, Sandi and Matt McNulty, Crysta Litzy, Ellie Bright, Annie Stock, Jonathan Webster, Kyle and Helen Hatfield, Aaron and Austin Kreutzjans, and Ali Hampton; thirty great grandchildren.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Margaret Kreutzjans; brothers, Richard, Sylvester, Joe, George, and Al Kreutzjans; sisters, Mildred Kreutzjans, Annie Walters, and Marcella Magoteaux; grandson, Steven Litzy.
Memorials can be made through the funeral home to St. Mary's Catholic Church or St. Mary's Catholic School.
