Edward J. Foster, 87, of North Vernon, passed away at 8:59 AM on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at Schneck Medical Center.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Sawyer – Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service. Rev. Frank McGee will officiate. Interment with Military Rites will follow at Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Born March 6, 1937, in Louisville, KY, Edward was the son of Albert and Emma Hicks Foster. He married Rebal Mae Driver on June 28, 1996. She preceded him in death on May 11, 2002. He later married Wavel Hignite. She survives.

Edward served in the United States Air Force from 1956 – 1967. He went on to retire from NASA where he was a quality control specialist.

He was a Christian of the Nazarene faith. He enjoyed collecting knives and old antiques.

Edward is survived by his wife, Wavel Foster of Franklin; sons, Doug Foster and Gary and his wife Lisa Foster of North Vernon; step-daughter, Karen Hignite of Franklin; sisters, Joyce Westmoreland of Salem, Sharon Ann of New Albany, Peggy Blackburn of Crothersville, and Liz Tench of GA; brothers, James Foster, and William "Bill" Foster of Crothersville; grandchildren, Jennifer May, Daphne Davis, Zach and April Foster, Conner and Peyton Hignite, and Calli and Keenan Conner; one great-grandchild, and one great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rebal; stepson, Donald Hignite; sisters, Vickie DeShong, and Mary Thompson; brothers, Richard and John Foster.
