Edward C. Evans, 90, of North Vernon passed away at 7:17 am Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at Jennings Healthcare Center.
Born in Bartholomew County, December 1, 1918, Edward was the son of Curt and Kate Scott Evans. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1936. He married Janice Marie Stagman on January 16, 1938. Ed worked for the B&O Railroad of North Vernon.. He was in the United States Army and during World War II worked on the train in the Philippines. He also was employed by Hershel Webster as an auto body repairman. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Ed enjoyed fishing in his spare time.
Mr. Evans is survived by his son, Jim Evans of Townsend, Tennessee, two daughters; Rosanne Gootee of North Vernon and Sally Melton of The Villages, Florida, 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Jack Lucas and five brothers, Roscoe, Harley, Ray, Glen and Ralph "Tiny" Evans and two sisters, Faye Maynard and Velma Webb.
Funeral Information
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Bethel Baptist Church in North Vernon with Reverend Joe Mayes officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 am Saturday at the church. Burial will be at the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon, Indiana.
