Mrs. Edna Ruth James

Edna Ruth James, 95, of North Vernon, passed away at 3:26 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at Jennings Healthcare Center.

Born March 3, 1920, Edna was the daughter of the late James and Bessie (Miller) Carson. On June 28, 1942, she married Donald O. James, and he preceded her in death on May 8, 1999.

Edna had worked at Muscatatuck State Developmental Center, Madison State Hospital and Fort Wayne State Hospital. She was a member of Graham Presbyterian Church, and she enjoyed sewing, quilting, birdwatching and playing table games.

Survivors include two sons, John James and Ronald James, both of North Vernon; a sister, Irene Ison of New Castle, KY; six grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Donald; three brothers, David, Emery and Julius Carson; and two sisters, Grace Carson and Rachel Wade.

Funeral Information

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2015, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service, with Rev. Michael Bean officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2015, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Graham Presbyterian Cemetery.
