Mrs. Edna P. Bowling

March 08, 1931 - June 09, 2015

Edna P. Bowling, 84, of North Vernon, passed away at 12:35 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at Kindred Hospital South in Greenwood.

Born March 8, 1931, in Hayden, Edna was the daughter of the late Edward and Minnie (Adler) Schafer. She married Lyman Bowling, Jr. on November 24, 1948, in Hayden, and he preceded her in death on August 23, 2000.

Edna was employed as a cook at Hayden School in the 1960's and later retired from Muscatatuck State Developmental Center where she also worked as a cook. She was a member of Hayden Baptist Church. She enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing, ATV riding, and playing euchre. She will be remembered by her family and friends for having a wonderful sense of humor.

Survivors include son, Michael (Janet) Bowling of North Vernon; daughter, Barbara (Leo) Cooper of North Vernon; three grandchildren, Miranda Bowling, Patty (John) Wells, and Melissa (Bobby) McCutcheon; and two sisters, Elsie Hatfield and Margaret Staublin, both of Columbus.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; son, Robert Alan Bowling; one brother, Earl Schafer; five sisters, Mary Nicholson, Ruth Huntington, Ethel Thurston, Elizabeth Tiemeyer and Louise Crider; and grandson, Eric Michael Bowling.

Funeral Information

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 12, 2015, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service, with the Rev. Scott Chasteen officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hayden Cemetery.
