Dudley "Doug" Mays, 80, of North Vernon, passed away at 12:45 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at home surrounded by loved ones.

A memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until the start of the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Cremation has been chosen.

Born on June 25, 1943, in Lovett Township, Doug was the loving son of Samuel and Laura (Sipes) Mays. He was united in marriage to Debra Ogden on November 26, 1975. She survives.

Doug was a Journeyman roofer. He was a former member of AmVets, Eagles, and the Moose Lodge. Doug enjoyed going fishing, playing bingo and Euchre, being outdoors, and going ginsing hunting. Doug took pride in taking care of his yard, he loved NASCAR and was a University of Kentucky sports fan. Most of all, Doug cherished spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, Debra Mays of North Vernon, survivors include son, Thomas Lee (Annette) Barnes of North Vernon; daughters, Tina Mays Ratcliff of Louin, MS, and Michelle Mays of North Vernon; honorary daughter, Trinda Tungate of North Vernon; sister, Marlene Bohall of Commiskey; brothers, Ronnie Mays, and Fred Mays both of North Vernon; grandchildren, Amy Nichols, Thomas Lee Barnes Jr., Ryan Barnes, Michael Hill, Matthew Underwood, James Ratcliff Jr., Andrew Satkowiak, Triston Anderson, and Ashlee Tungate; fourteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and a very special nephew, John, who helped with Doug's daily care.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Laura Mays; sisters, Donnie Spicer, and Barbara Derringer; brothers, Larry, Jack, and Bob Mays.
