Dorothy Barr Day Morris

June 13, 1915 - May 31, 2011

Our beautiful mother, just shy of her 96th birthday, had a peaceful ending to a wonderful life. It was filled with family friends and many others whom she adored.

Dorothy was born to Mildred and Frank Barr in Bloomington, Indiana on June 13. 1915. She was a graduate of Bloomington High School. She married Archie C. Day on June 15 1938.
Archie Day owned the Dixie Tent and Awning Company and Jonesville Canvas Company.

Dorothy owned and operated the A&S Dry goods in North Vernon before retiring and moving to Seymour, IN where she worked part time in the dry goods department of K-mart. She was a member of the Vernon Clonian Club and BPW and the First Baptist Church of North Vernon. Dorothy was an avid artist, painting oils, playing piano and she enjoyed cooking. She married Harold Morris in 1994 who was a Major in the US Army and served under Gen. Eisenhower as his railroad commanding officer and was a hero of WWII.

Dorothy moved to Hudson, Florida with her daughter in 2002. She is survived by her children
Phyllis Day-Corson of Hudson, FL; Mrs. Karen Sue (Robert) Horn of Chattanooga, TN; and Timothy Lee Day of Hudson, Florida formerly of Seymour, IN.

Seven grandchildren: Phyllis Day-Corson [Christopher A. Yeager (1959-2009), Phillip G. Yeager of Borden, IN; Sabrina Bear-Blake of Cincinnati, OH, and Nicole Corson of Middletown, OH.] Karen S. Horn [Ann Elise Cooper-Brown of Indianapolis, IN and Jill Wilson-O'Neill of Columbus, IN.] Timothy L. Day [Brent A. Day of Seymour and Craig A. Day of Georgetown, IN.]

Fourteen Great Grandchildren: Katie S. Yeager of Xenia, OH; Barbara McKenna Yeager and Christopher Clayton Yeager of Borden, IN. Kharysa O'Neill and DeLainey Rae O'Neill of Brownstown, IN; Chase Brown and Olivia Brown of Indianapolis, IN; Keeton Thomas Mullis and Kaytlin Kharliegh Shoup of Columbus, IN; Skylar MaKena Day and Gunner Aaron Day of Seymour, IN; and Isaiah M. Day and a step great granddaughter Shelby L. Woods of Georgetown, IN.

Also surviving are three Great Great grandchildren, Nevaeh L. Yeager-Ballard; Jaelyn A. Yeager-Ballard & Kyrstiana S. Yeager-Ballard of Xenia, OH. Her eldest grandson, Christopher A. Yeager, preceded her in death.

Funeral Information

There will be a graveside service at Vernon Cemetery on Saturday June 4, 2011 at 2 pm. Rev. Bob Weeks will officiate. Arrangements were made in care of Sawyer - Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service.
