Mrs. Dorothy Corya

October 17, 1925 - January 10, 2015

Dorothy L. Corya, 89, of North Vernon passed away at 2:30 AM Saturday, January 10, 2015 at St. Vincent - Jennings Hospital.

Born October 17, 1925, Dorothy was the daughter of Emerson and Georgia Sorell Simmons. She married Eldo Corya December 31, 1944. He preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Butlerville Baptist Church. She worked for Morgan Packing in the 1940's, Hardings Packing in the 1950's, and cleaned houses and did washing and ironing for people. She enjoyed walking, doll collecting, country music, her dog, shopping, making chocolate fudge, homemade ice cream and going to church.

She is survived by sons, Mike (Cindy) Corya of Commiskey, and Mark (Lezlie Brooks) Corya of Commiskey; sisters, Velma Boardman and Anita Ashpaugh of North Vernon; daughter-in-law, Sharon Corya; grandchildren, Michael (Jeanette) Corya Jr., Donna (Billy) Johnson, Joe (Beth) Corya, Scott (Amber) Corya, and Les Corya; and twelve great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons, Bobby and Donald Corya; sisters, Norma Jean Owens, Joy Ann Owens, and Vada Simmons.

Funeral Information

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Sawyer - Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service. The Rev. Jimmy Albertson will officiate. Interment will be in Coffee Creek Christian Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
