Doris Juanita Elmore, 99, passed from this life surrounded by her family on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, in Terre Haute, IN.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service.  Pastor Dana Newhouse will officiate.  Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 16, 2018 at the funeral home.

Born July 24, 1918, in Jackson County, Doris was the daughter of Charles Day and Letha Boggs Wallace.  She married Dale Richard Elmore on August 24, 1936 in Brownstown.   He preceded her in death on June 11, 1970.

Doris retired from the Muscatatuck State Developmental Center dietary department in 1984.  She attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Terre Haute when health allowed.  She enjoyed reading her e-reader, eating out and loved having company.

She is survived by three sons, Donald (Marvelle) Elmore of Scipio, Richard (Mary) Elmore of Sun City, AZ, and David (Louise) Elmore of Seymour; one daughter, Linda (Jim) Rodenberger of Terre Haute; one foster daughter, Janet Sue (Alvin) Fields of Seymour; two nieces, Ellen Wallace of Crothersville and Donna (Jeff) East of Reddington; a daughter-in-law, Sue Elmore of North Vernon; 12 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and 26 great-great grandchildren.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Charles Brattain, Lloyd Wallace, John and Marvin Day; and four sisters, Bertha Stewart, Hazel and Minnie Disney and Laura Day.

She touched so many lives in her 99.5 years.  Her wisdom, compassion and love will live through her children, grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Trinity Lutheran Organ Fund.
