Doris Carmickle, 80, of North Vernon, passed away at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 6, 2021, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus.
A memorial service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 13, 2021, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Milo Smith will officiate. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
Born on May 13, 1940, in Orange County, Indiana, Doris was the loving daughter of Thomas and Dorothy (Morgenroth) Allen. She was united in marriage to Jerry Carmickle on December 20, 1958. He preceded her in death on July 4, 2016.
Doris was a member of the First Christian Church in Columbus and had attended the First Church of Nazarene in North Vernon. She had owned and operated her own Day Care for years her enjoyment was taking care of children. Doris liked quilting in her free time, but most of all, cherished making memories with her family.
She is survived by sons, Wayne Carmickle of Scipio, and David Carmickle of Greensburg; brother, Howard Allen of French Lick; sister, Shirley Allen of Indianapolis; eleven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Dorothy Allen; husband, Jerry Carmickle; son, Robert Carmickle.
