Dora Deane "Deanie" Glaze Byram was born March 19, 1928, in St. Bernice, IN to Darryl and Mabel Pearman Glaze. She spent many hours serving in the Wesleyan Church as a young girl and was baptized in the Wabash River at the age of nine.
She moved to North Vernon her freshman year and graduated from North Vernon High School in 1946.
Deanie was married on May 11, 1946, to Bobby Lee Byram I n Carrollton, KY.
Deanie was a homemaker, worked at the Indiana State House, Regal Rugs, JCHS Library and Probst-Sherer. She belonged to Psi Iota Xi. She and Bob enjoyed dancing and were beautiful to watch; slow, jitterbug and square dancing. Deanie enjoyed playing euchre and fishing. She and Bob made several trips to Minnesota with his sister, Shirley and her husband Gene.
Deanie and Bob were very active in their grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's park, high school & college sports activities. Deanie made several banners for the summer All-Star baseball teams. They sat on many benches watching football, wrestling, basketball, baseball, softball, and volleyball games. They also walked several golf courses. Bob and Deanie spent their winters in Florida for twenty years and would schedule their trips back to North Vernon to catch away baseball games. They were known lovingly as Grammy & Grampy by all who knew them.
The first-time Bobby laid eyes on her he was setting pins at the bowling alley. She was in town visiting and he asked his buddy who she was and said, "I need to meet that girl". The rest is history.
And all because two people fell in love...
Deanie is survived by her children, Becky (Braden) Worrell of Huntertown, Shirley Deckard of Indianapolis, Hank (Michelle) Byram of Dupont, and Leslie (Jerry) Lowman of Scipio; grandchildren, Casey (Shanna) Byram, Karie (Jon) Bone, Sadie (Jeff) Schmidt, Jody Deckard (Jeremy), Andrew (Kristina) Deckard, Gabe (Jess) Lowman, Bryce (Audrie) Worrell, and Cole Byram; seventeen great-grandchildren, six step-greatgrandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Deanie was preceded in death by her husband Bob, of sixty-eight years; her parents; grandson, Kevin O'Mara; great-granddaughter, Morgan Wright; great-great grandson, David Byram.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at 1:00 PM. At Sawyer - Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service. Pastor Don Hadley will officiate. Burial will follow in Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until the time of the service.
