Dennis Patton Ramey Sr. 90, of Scipio, passed away at 4:25 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Jennings Healthcare Center in North Vernon.
Born on November 18, 1920 in Scipio, Dennis was the son of the late William H. & Sadie B. Cole Ramey.
Mr. Ramey was a member of Scipio United Methodist Church, Jennings County Senior Resource Center and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. He retired from Cummins after 30 years of service. Dennis enjoyed cutting wood after retirement, attending Jennings County High School Basketball games and attending the Senior Center functions.
He is survived by five children; Sandra "Sandy" Vance and her husband, Barry of North Vernon, Peggy Paswater of St. Petersburg, FL, Randall H. Ramey and his wife Nancy of Vernon, Tammy Creech of Columbus, Benjamin T. Ramey of Carlisle; ten grandchildren, Vanessa, Trevor and Trent Vance, Patton Hall, Josh, Jennifer and Jessica Creech, Tatum and Myles Ramey and Rheann Thomas; six great grandchildren, Merrick, Zac, and LeeAndra Vance-Green, Isaac Vance, Christopher and Madison Hall.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dennis Ramey Jr.; a grandchild, Tracy Lee Ison; a great-grandchild Jordyn Vance; nine brothers and sisters, Lila Holt, Mary Poer, Virginia Carnes, Mabel Zerbe, John Ramey, William "Jake" Ramey, Virgil "Red" Ramey, Woodrow Ramey and Thomas Ramey Sr.
Funeral Information
A funeral service will be held at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service in North Vernon on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Mona Safley officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. Burial and military graveside rites will be held at Vernon Cemetery. A family dinner will be held at Scipio United Methodist Church directly following the Service.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Alzheimer's Association, Jennings County Hospice, Scipio School Alumni and Jordyn Vance Scholarship Fund, both through the Jennings County Community Foundation
