David Wayne Johnson, 68, of Madison, Alabama, passed away at 12:15 a.m. on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at the University of Alabama Birmingham Hospital.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Deacon Larry French will officiate. Burial with Military Honors will be conducted at Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday, at the funeral home.

Born on December 13, 1955, in Seymour, David was the loving son of Wayne E. and Ruth E. (Coffman) Johnson. He was united in marriage to Nagela Caldas on December 31, 2011. She survives.

David graduated from Jennings County High School in 1973. He then joined the United States Navy where he served ten years. He worked as an electrical engineer and traveled worldwide. He enjoyed working and tinkering on things to fix. He liked to go boating, watch a good movie, eat good food, and traveling.

In addition to his wife, Nagela Johnson of Madison, AL, survivors include sons, Michael (Avara) Johnson, and Hiago Torres; mother, Ruth Reitman; sisters, Kathryn Phillips, Linda (Louie) Cribb, Patricia (Mike) Nash, and Leanna Maschino; brothers, Michael (Sandy) Reitman, Paul (Darla) Reitman, James (Vicki) Reitman, John (Janet) Reitman, and Phillip Reitman; grandsons, Brody and Brandon Johnson.

David was preceded in death by his fathers, Wayne Johnson, and Joseph Leroy Reitman; nephew, Duane Eric Cribb.
