Obituary

David Emerson Brooks, 56, of North Vernon, passed away Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Arbor Grove Greensburg, IN. Born May 1st,1969 in Madison Indiana. He was the son of Emerson and Sheila (Petty) Brooks. David had a deep love for dogs, and he shared a special bond with everyone he cared for. He was a passionate sports fan, finding joy in NASCAR, IU basketball, and truly any sport he could watch or talk about. He loved spending time with family and friends and being able to cut up with anyone he befriended. Throughout his life, David was known for his remarkably positive attitude, even when faced with adversity. He fought a long and courageous battle with Muscular Dystrophy, yet he never lost his spirit, his sense of humor, or his unwavering faith. He inspired everyone around him by choosing hope, gratitude, and kindness every single day. David made North Vernon his home and was deeply connected to the people around him. His humility, warmth, and easygoing nature touched countless lives. He will be remembered for his generosity, resilience, and the simple but powerful way he cared for those he loved. David is survived by his parents Emerson and Sheila (Petty) Brooks, Sister Amber (Russell) Redicker, Nieces Kylee Walters (Dakota Ponsler), Lauren Walters (Eligh Gabbard-Heitz), Brooklyn Walters and Emma Redicker. Several aunts and uncles, Rosalin and Steve Childress, Wilma and Rick Tschaenn, Roger and Becky Brooks, Kevin Petty, Kim and Dan Shanahan, Kerry and Tony Pierce. Along with several cousins and his good friend Howard (Coach) Jones. He is preceded in death by his sister Stacy Brooks Tiemeyer and grandparents Ralph and Jennie Brooks and Robert and Marilyn Petty. A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, December 6th, 2025, at 1:00pm at Sawyer- Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service. Rev. Connie Barr will officiate. Burial will be at Vernon Cemetery, Vernon IN. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Family Foundation or Mercy Rescue in honor of David.
