Obituary

Darlene Kay Suhre, 75, of North Vernon, IN, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 8, 2026. She was born on October 30, 1950, in Seymour, IN, and lived her life with kindness, warmth, and a zest for family and friends.

Darlene dedicated years to serving her community at St. Vincent-Jennings Hospital after her time at Regal Rugs. A proud graduate of Ivy Tech, she cherished the friendships she made along the way and was a proud member of Psi Iota XI sorority.

Family was everything to Darlene. She is survived by her loving husband, William "Bill" Suhre, and their children: Jason Suhre (Nadine), Jeremy Suhre (Susan), and Rachael Ertel (and her husband, Zach). Darlene will be greatly missed by her treasured grandchildren-Madelyn, Layne (Delaynee), Zoie, Brody, Kennedy, and Lincoln-as well as her sister, Becky Biddinger, and brother, Earl Shumaker Jr.

Darlene had a passion for reading, quilting with her sister and sister-in-laws, and playing board games with her grandchildren. Christmas was her favorite time of year, filled with joy and laughter, and she made it special for everyone around her.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at 11:00 am at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service. Rev. John Riggs will officiate. Layne and Zoie Suhre will provide music. Burial will follow at Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Monday, October 12, 2026, from 4:00 pm -8:00 pm. Friends and family are invited to come together to celebrate her life and the memories we hold dear.

Darlene's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She was a true gift to all, and she will be greatly missed. Memorial contributions in Darlene's name can be made to Psi Iota XI sorority to be used for scholarships.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Margaret Spaulding Shumaker; brother, Jack Shumaker; and grandson, Layton Suhre.
