D. Sue Skelton, 75, of North Vernon, passed away Friday, September 21, 2018, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL.

A funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2018, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service.  Rev. Michael Biggs will officiate.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service.  Burial will take place at a later date.

Born June 19, 1943, in Louisville, KY, Sue was the daughter of Joseph Elsler and Flossie Tungate.  She married Duane Skelton, her beloved husband, on December 3, 2003.  He preceded her in death on March 22, 2011.

She was a member of the State Street Community Worship Center and North Vernon Senior Citizens.  Sue had retired after 33 years from the Lincoln Developmental Center (Lincoln, IL) as a dietary supervisor.  She loved her animals and spending time with family and friends as well as her twin granddaughters that lived nearby.  Sue had volunteered at various locations throughout the community.

Sue is survived by a daughter, Susie Kiel of Madison; son, Gary Stone of North Vernon; grandchildren, David (Heidi) Gehrke, Haley (Josh Johnson) Caplinger, Chelsea (Billy) Couch, Damon Bradshaw, Josey Kiel, Alisha Garland, Renee Barnes and Brandi Fiscus; great-grandchildren, Hailey Mae and Myra Sue Mashburn, Alicia Keller, Dayton Bolton, Bella Couch, Bently Johnson, Maddie Fiscus and Addie Barnes; nieces, Cindy Perozzo and Cheryl Richardson; nephew, Ron Rockhold; great-niece, Gracie Perozzo, as well as several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Elsler and Flossie Tungate; her beloved husband, Duane Skelton; sister, Ruth Rockhold; and nephew, Jim Rockhold.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Jefferson County Animal Shelter.
