Clarabell Leahigh, 87, of North Vernon, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus.
Born October 22, 1926, in Jennings County, Mrs. Leahigh was the daughter of the late Carl and Flora Speer Pickett. She married Leroy Leahigh on December 10, 1945, and he preceded her in death on November 16, 2010.
Clarabell had previously been employed at Hook's Drug Store as a cashier, and had managed Lone Oak Trailer Park in Paris, TN, for 10 years. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, a past president of VFW Post #2021 Ladies Auxiliary, and a past president of 9th District Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, square dancing, and she was an avid Tennessee Lady Vols fan.
Survivors include a daughter, Kay (Robert) Leahigh of Cincinnati; two sons, Richard A. (Elke) Leahigh of Surf City, NC, and Phillip D. (Marcia) Leahigh of North Vernon; one brother, Wayne Pickett of St. Petersburg, FL; 13 grandchildren, Steven and Richard Leahigh, Jennifer Bates, Christine Neisel, Sara and Chris Hale, Alonna Williams, Virginia Bell, Stephanie Roth, Cortney Cloud, Beau Elston, Katie Suhre and Meredith Inman; and 25 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; four brothers, Cecil, Russel, Curtis and Harold Pickett; two sisters, India Seal and Myrtle Pickett; and grandson, Ben Elston.
Funeral Information
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Sawyer - Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service. Dr. Ricky Persons will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Butlerville Cemetery.
