Chesley Ray Jeffries, 90, of Butlerville, passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2009 at 12:35 p.m. at Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus.
Born January 8, 1919 in Zenas, Indiana, he was the son of the late Frank P. and Minnie Creulo Jeffries. He later married Mary Alice Downey on December of 1945. She preceded him in death on September 2, 1996.
Mr. Jeffries was a Sergeant in the Army Air Corp. and served in World War II. He graduated from Indiana University with a B.S. in 1951 and later received a Masters Degree. He was employed as a Business Ed. teacher at the Dupont High School and then Madison High School for many years. He was a member of the I.S.T.A. and the V.F.W. He enjoyed his grandchildren, gardening, farming and raising cattle.
He is survived by his son, George (Brenda) Jeffries, of North Vernon, granddaughters, Andrea Jeffries and Mary (Aaron) Young both of North Vernon, two great-granddaughters, Emily and Hannah Young of North Vernon, and a sister Leona Wolfe of Owensboro, KY..
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Chalice Miller and his wife.
Funeral Information
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday at Sawyer~Pickett Funeral Home. Rev. Don Morris will officiate. Burial will be at the Hopewell Cemetery in Holton with a military service. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. on Monday before the funeral service at Sawyer~Pickett Funeral Home.
