Charlie Campbell, 91, of North Vernon passed away on July 21, 2026. He was born on September 11, 1934, in Napfor, Kentucky, to Irvine and Viola (Lewis) Campbell. He married Joyce DeCamp on May 23, 1957, in Jennings County.

Charlie served his nation with great honor in the United States Navy, where he retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer after 20 years of active duty and 10 years in the reserves. His military career reflected his discipline, technical mastery, and commitment to duty. He took great pride in his service and in the friendships and experiences that came with it.

After his military retirement, Charlie continued to work with the same dedication that had guided his life. He later retired a second time from Regal Rugs, where he worked as a computer operator.

Charlie’s Protestant faith was important to him. He enjoyed visiting different churches in the area and appreciated the fellowship, worship, and encouragement he found there. His belief in God gave him strength, peace, and direction, and it was evident to those around him that his faith was not simply something he professed, but something he lived each day. In his spare time, Charlie enjoyed remodeling homes with his nephew, Tom. He found satisfaction in working with his hands and in seeing projects come together. He also enjoyed fishing, a pastime that gave him time for reflection and quiet enjoyment. Whether he was working on a home project or spending time outdoors, Charlie found joy in simple, meaningful activities.

He is survived by his wife; son, Royce Campbell; brother, Don Irvine Campbell; sister, Kathleen Fields and several nieces and nephews.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Arthur Campbell, James Taft Campbell, George Campbell; sisters, Ruth Downs, Betty Sue Hybarger, Louis Jean Bailey, and Mabel Campbell.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 24, 2026, 12:00 p.m. at Sawyer Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Family and friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Vernon Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Charlie’s memory may be made to American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
