December 11, 1924 - April 19, 2010

Charles C. Ward, 85, of North Vernon passed away on Monday, April 19, 2010 at St. Vincent-Jennings Hospital.

Mr. Ward was born on December 11, 1924 in Huntington, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Charles C. and Emma Chaffin Ward Sr. He married Nina Hayton . She preceded him in death. He later married Flora Ward and she preceded him in death.

Charles had worked as a plumber for the Muscatatuck State Developmental Center. He had served in the Army in World War II. He was a member of the VFW and the Masonic Lodge #219 and attended the Church of God. He enjoyed his dog, Peppy, watching Western movies, football and working on cars.

He is survived by three sons, Anthony W. (Janet) Ward of Holliston, MA, Michael (Cheryl) Ward of Butlerville, Charles P. "Pat" (Loretta) Ward of Butlerville, and a daughter, Diana L. Darby of Ormand Beach, FL.; a brother, James Chaffin of VA.;a step-son, Charles S. "Steve" (Jan) Fugate of Cannelton, IN., six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, and two sisters, Thelma Stoner and Margie Wuthrich.

Funeral Information

A funeral service will be held at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home on Friday, April 23, 2010 at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Jack Suits officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday and 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Friday. Burial will be at the Butlerville Cemetery with a military service.
