It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles Patrick Smith, aged 66, of North Vernon, Indiana, who left us on July 28, 2025. Born on January 8, 1959, in Seymour, Indiana, Charles was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who touched the lives of many.Charles spent the majority of his career as a skilled brick mason, known for his craftsmanship and work ethic in the construction industry. His journey through life included a meaningful tenure as an EMT for Rescue 20, during which he demonstrated a profound commitment to helping others. Later, he proudly served in the United States Navy, where he learned the values of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. After two decades of loyal service at Aisin, Charles retired, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and integrity.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Charles found joy in life's simple pleasures. He cherished boating and riding motorcycles, often embarking on adventures that brought joy and laughter to those around him. A devoted grandfather, he delighted in taking his grandchildren, Tyler, Alyssa, Haley, and Chase, to amusement parks and teaching his children to drive, sharing both skills and treasured memories.
Charles is survived by his beloved wife, Cynthia Smith; his son, Brooks (Ashley) Smith; his daughter, Leah (Adam) Russelburg; brothers James, Chris, and Kevin Smith; sisters Dana Day and Rhonda Rich; and his cherished grandchildren. His kindness and gentle spirit will live on in their hearts and the hearts of all who knew him.
In accordance with his wishes cremation is planned. No services are scheduled. Sawyer - Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service has been entrusted with the arrangements.Charles Patrick Smith was more than just a brick mason; he was a builder of memories and relationships. His legacy will endure through the love he shared and the lives he impacted. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Leo, and Mary Smith.
