Mr. Charles Hartwell

November 18, 1913 - February 07, 2013

Charles Forest "Charlie" Hartwell, 99, of North Vernon, passed away at 2:40 a.m. on Thursday, February 07, 2013, at Jennings Healthcare Center in North Vernon.

Born November 18, 1913, in Vernon, Charlie was the son of the late Alfred and Maggie Hartwell. He attended the Vernon Presbyterian Church where Rev. June Rogers had been his long-time friend and pastor.

At 16 years old, Charlie became the Vernon Town Marshall, ordering a gun and badge from the Sears & Roebuck Catalog. He later worked for the Vernon Volunteer Fire Department. Also, as a young man, he had worked for the Old Tunnel Mill and the railroad. In his later years, he worked for Arthur Sears Swing Factory and for Dale Bentz. He enjoyed watching sports and especially the Cincinnati Reds baseball. He was a very devout Democrat.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Information

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Vernon Presbyterian Church with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Vernon Cemetery.
