Charles "Art" DeSpain, 77, of North Vernon passed away at 5:50 pm on Monday, March, 21, 2016 at Our Hospice Inpatient Charles Facility in Columbus.

Born June 25, 1938, Charles was the son of the late Herbert and Lillie Murphy  DeSpain. He married Mattie Streeval on January 30, 1960. She survives.

Mr. DeSpain had been employed for 32 years with Wellman Thermal, formerly GE, in Shelbyville, Indiana. He was a member of the Lord's Chapel in North Vernon where he was a member of the choir and formerly a member of Beacon Baptist Church in Shelbyville. Charles enjoyed fishing, playing tennis, horseshoes and bowling, doing yard work and watching NASC AR.

He is survived by his wife, Mattie DeSpain of North Vernon;  a son Terry DeSpain of North Vernon; a daughter, Kimberly Leclerq of Shelbyville; three grandchildren, Josh, Jessica and Kyle; six great-grandchildren, Zachary, Austin, Carter, Emma, Mason and Landon; and two sisters, Betty Shaw of Columbus and Rosemary Cravens of Edinburgh.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.
