Obituary

Charles Eugene Caudill, of North Vernon, passed on to his heavenly home on April 6, 2026, being 94 years and 30 days old. He was born on March 7, 1932, in Gander, Kentucky (now known as Carcassonne), the youngest child of Hendricks D. and Anna (Dixon) Caudill.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:30 am on Monday, April 13, 2026, at Sawyer - Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service, 115 S. State St, North Vernon, IN. Brother Ricky Persons will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will take place on Thursday, April 16, 2026, in the James D. Caudill Family Cemetery, in Carcassonne, Kentucky.

Charles proudly served two terms in the Army during the Korean Conflict, contributing to the efforts of the Army Signal Corps as they built vital communication networks that supported our troops in the field. His bravery and dedication during this time left an indelible mark, one that he wore with honor throughout his life.

Upon returning home, Charles embraced a successful career as an avionic technician, sharing his expertise with esteemed airlines including Lake Central Airlines, US Air, and Continental Airlines. As a proud member of the machinist union, he exemplified the values of hard work and loyalty that defined his generation.

In retirement, Charles ventured into the world of real estate, obtaining his license and embracing new opportunities. He traveled extensively and lived in several states, yet the mountains of Southeastern Kentucky always called him back. It was here, amidst the familiar landscapes, that he found peace and belonging. He is now resting at home.

He is survived by his daughter, Lynnette (Les) Wickliff; son, Anthony Charles (Beth) Caudill; grandsons, Brandon (Amy) Caudill, Logan Caudill (Felipe Polo), Spencer Caudill; great-grandchildren, Drake, Lila, Elaina and Harper and the mother of his children, Othelle (Sexton) Caudill.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Arlene (Angelino) Caudill; brothers, Estill, Ellis, Clifton, James, Kenneth, and Hendricks Jr Caudill; sisters, Chrissy Caudill, Viola Hall, Clara Blair and Virginia Dare Back.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Charles’ memory to Carcassonne Community Center, c/o Marcia Caudill, 392 Civil War Gap, Carcassonne, KY, 41804, or online at carcassonnecommunitycenter.org.
