Charles M. Cartwright Sr., 85, of North Vernon passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at his home.
Visitation will be held at Sawyer - Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service on Friday, September 5, 2025, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Inurnment will be in Vernon Cemetery on Saturday, September 6, at 11:00 am.
Born in Vernon on December 29, 1939, Charles was the son of Haskell & Lethia Hill Cartwright. He married Sonja Castor on July 6, 1960. She preceded him in death on October 22, 2013.
Charles worked as an engineer in the Tool & Die industry for fifty one years. He retired from M.L.K.S. in Greensburg in 2009. He later worked for a few years as the Sexton of Vernon Cemetery. He enjoyed fishing and in his earlier years, hunting.
He is survived by sons, Chuck (Candice) Cartwright, of North Vernon, Joe (Robin) Cartwright of North Vernon, Carl (Wendy) Cartwright of Aiken, SC; daughter, Denese Fowler of Destin, FL; brothers, Haskell Cartwright Jr., of North Vernon, Tom Cartwright of North Vernon, Vern Cartwright of Vernon; sisters, Vivian Jines of San Jacinto, Mary Ezzo of North Vernon, Janice Lanham of North Vernon; grandchildren, Anna Lauderbaugh, Jesse Cartwright, Brittley Weller, William Harper, Cliffton Cartwright, Chace Cartwright, Christian Cartwright, Lance Hawkins, Buddy Hawkins, and Gilbert Hawkins; thirteen great-grandchildren.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Haskell & Lethia Cartwright: wife, Sonja Cartwright; sisters, Margaret Jackson, Martha Black, Ida Clerkin, and Lois Robinson.
Memorials may be made to the New Freedom Baptist Church Cemetery in Charles' memory through the funeral home.
