Charles William Cardinal, 84, of North Vernon, passed away at 7:17 a.m. on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Majestic Care of North Vernon.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Rev. Dan Corbin will officiate. Burial will be in the Dupont Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. A Masonic Service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m.,  at the funeral home.

Born on October 11, 1939, in Jefferson County, IN., Charles was the loving son of Wilbur and Beatrice (Clifton) Cardinal.

Charles worked as a Conservation Tech for U.S. Soil & Water. He was the first president and charter member of Shriners Smokey Patrol, member of Murat Temple, past Master of Dupont Masonic Lodge #419, past President of Rolling Hill's Shrine Club, past Worthy Patron of North Vernon Chapter of Eastern Star #183, past Chairman of Scottish Rite Club, and Vice Chairman of Scottish Rite Committee.

Left to cherish his memories is son, Steve (Rita Euers) Cardinal of North Vernon; daughters, Susie Cardinal of Dupont, and Patty (Frank) Abplanalp of Franklin; previous wife and friend, Barb Frische; grandchildren, Erin (Derek) Green of North Vernon, Nicole Davidson of Franklin, and Sam Davidson of Westport; great grandchildren, Keegan and Rylee Green of North Vernon; sister in law, Patsy Cardinal of Columbus; niece, Shelly Cardinal-Rockwell of Columbus; sister, Nettie (James) Malcomb of North Vernon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Beatrice Cardinal; brother, Donald Cardinal; stepmother, Ruth Cardinal; sister, Mary Wilkerson.

Memorial donations can be made through the funeral home to the Shrine Transport Fund.
