Mr. Cecil H. Smith Jr.

Cecil H. Smith Jr., 78, of Scipio passed away Thursday, February 19, 2009 at his residence.

Born February 3, 1931 in Brooklyn, IN, he was the son of Cecil H. and Ethel Rike Smith Sr. He married Shirley Ann Young May 27, 1961. She preceded him in death January 17, 1978.

Mr. Smith graduated from Holton High School in 1949. He served in the US Marine Corp from May 1949 - May 1952. He retired from Jefferson Proving Ground after 36 years of service. He was a member of the First Christian Church, North Vernon Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Valley, Murat Shrine, and Rolling Hills Shrine Club. He was a past master of the Holton Masonic Lodge. He also enjoyed NASCAR racing.

Mr. Smith is survived by his daughter, Joy A. Hall of North Vernon; son, Timothy C. Smith of North Vernon, and three grandchildren, Christina Hall, Michael Hall, and Sara Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother, William J. Smith, and a sister, Virginia Gregory.

Funeral Information

Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at 11 AM at Sawyer - Pickett Funeral Home with the Rev. Anthony Sweeney officiating. Burial and military graveside rites will be held in the Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 PM Monday at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be conducted at 6 PM.
