Carl L. McMurtrey, 40, of North Vernon, passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital.

A funeral service will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, October 2, 2017 at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service.  Rev. James Terry will officiate.  Visitation will be from

4:00 p.m. until the time of service on Monday.

Born on November 23, 1976, in Scottsburg, Indiana, Carl was the son of Karl Brandenburg and Marsha Jines McMurtrey.  He graduated from Jennings County High School in 1995.

Carl was employed in the tree service industry.  He had previously worked at Atmosphere Annealing, Dolly Madison and Valeo as a maintenance mechanic.  He enjoyed Indian arrowhead hunting, bass guitar, fishing and computer work.

In addition to his mother, Marsha McMurtrey, Carl is survived by two daughters, Adrian McMurtrey of Seymour and Carmen McMurtrey of North Vernon; a companion, Caroline Short of North Vernon; three sisters, Carol Turner and Emmie Reynolds of Alabama and Mary McMurtrey of North Vernon; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Karl Brandenburg.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the family to assist with funeral expenses.
