Bobby Lee "Grampy" Byram, 86, of North Vernon, passed away at 2:29 a.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Born December 11, 1927, in Jennings County, Bob was the son of the late Lester and Olive Smith Byram. He married Dora "Deanie" Glaze on May 11, 1946. She survives.
Bob had been employed as a pipe fitter until retirement in 1991. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Local #440 Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union, and had served as a volunteer fireman in North Vernon. He enjoyed fishing and bowling. Bob was an avid Panther sports fan, and had held the pole vaulting record at North Vernon High School for three decades. He always looked forward to visits with children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Deanie; two sons, Hank (Michele) and Dirk Byram, both of North Vernon; three daughters, Becky (Braden) Worrell of North Vernon, Shirley Denise Deckard of Indianapolis, and Leslie (Jerry) Lowman of Scipio; sister, Shirley Byram Grayson of Florida; nine grandchildren, Kevin O'Mara, Karie O'Mara Capps, Casey and Cole Byram, Jody and Andrew Deckard, Bryce Worrell, Sadie Deckard Schmidt and Gabe Lowman; 19 great grandchildren; and cousin, Darlene (Paul) Hicks of North Vernon.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Information
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2014, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service. Jerry Lowman will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Friday, and from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery.
