Mr. Blain Carney

Blain Carney, 62, of North Vernon died Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus.

Blain was born in Jackson County, August 9, 1951, the son of the late Paul and Kathleen Dowell Carney. He married Mary Burton Carney on January 24, 1976. She survives.

Mr. Carney graduated from Jennings County High School in 1970. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 1970 serving in Vietnam in 1972. He was honorably discharged in 1974. He worked for JenAcres. He drove and was a salesman for Peyton's, a division of Kroger. He drove for Horstman Oil Company delivering fuel and oil to local homes and businesses. He tended bar at the First and Last Chance and Eder's Bowling Alley. His last employment was as a truck driver for Lee's Ready Mix from 1981 to 1998. Mr. Carney has been disabled since 1998.

Blain is a member of the Vernon Baptist Church, Post 2021 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion of Seymour. He enjoyed traveling, boating, camping, 4-wheeling and gaming.

He is survived by an Aunt, Wanda Dowell Smock of Vernon, his siblings Alan (Phyllis), Paula Bennett (Randy) and Glen (Debbie) of North Vernon; Phil (Martha) of Commiskey , Linda Swords (Phil) of Vernon, 10 nieces and nephews and a host of great nieces and nephews.

Funeral Information

A life-celebration service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, August 9, 2014, at the Vernon Baptist Church Family Life Center. Graveside service and inurnment will be at 2:30 p.m. at Vernon Cemetery, with Rev. Don Morris officiating and Rovena (Bee) Murphy as pall bearer.
