Billy Joe Deaton, 69, of Westport passed away Saturday, January 28, 2017, at his home.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at Sawyer – Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service. Rev. Dale Boyd will officiate.  Burial and military graveside rites will be conducted at Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.

Born September 11, 1947, in Hazard, KY, Billy Joe was the son of Earl and Beulah Duff Deaton. He married Mary Brinkman on September 29, 1979.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1965 – 1971 where he was and Airman First Class and served in Vietnam. He retired from the B & O Railroad and worked nineteen years at Atterbury. He also drove for Medi-Cab. He ran his own pro golf shop for many years until he became ill. He loved playing golf, University of Kentucky Basketball, and refereeing ball games. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and talking.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Deaton of Westport; son, Dan Deaton of Indianapolis; daughters, Kim (Jim) Whitaker of Westport, and Tonya Deaton of Indianapolis; brother, Earl Deaton Jr. of OH,; sisters, Charlotte (J.B.) Bell of North Vernon, Deborah (Gary) of Conroe, TX, Vicki (Richard) Strine of OH, and Robbin (Mike) Krauser of OH; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Clyde Bowen; sister, Judy Graham; and brother, Dan Deaton.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Volunteers of Rescue 20, Westport Volunteer Fire Department, or the Disabled Veterans.
