Mr. Billy E. Baker

February 13, 1933 - October 30, 2009

Billy E. Baker, 76 of Commiskey passed away on Friday, October 30, 2009 at the Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis.

Born on February 13, 1933, Billy was the son of the late Rodney R. and Molly McIntosh Baker. He served in the United States Army and later married Joan Trowbridge. She survives. Mr. Baker retired from Allison-General Motors in 1988 after 37 years of employment. After retirement he went on to work for Maxicare and served on the Board of Directors for eight years.

Billy was a member of the Graham Presbyterian Church where he was an elder, the Masonic Lodge where he was a 33rd Degree Mason, the Shrine in Indianapolis, the Scottish Rite, American Legion, and the UAW. He retired after his first granddaughter was born. He was the world's greatest grandpa. He loved fishing, birds, his farm, gardening, the Pine Grove Community in Florida, watching NASCAR and Indiana University basketball.

Mr. Baker is survived by his wife, Joan Baker of Commiskey; a son, Michael (Brenda) Baker of Seymour; a daughter, Mary (Tom) Davee of Madison; four brothers, Roland Baker of Commiskey, Tommy Baker of Madison, and Luther and Charles Baker of Mooresville; two sisters, Pauline Horton of Palm Springs, Florida, and Lida Webster of North Vernon; three grandchildren, Kristen and Lauren Davee and Ashley Baker; three step-grandchildren; brother and sister in laws, Glen and Ellen Trowbridge Jr., and Tom and Janet Kershner.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert Lee, and Jesse Baker.

Funeral Information

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, November 3rd at Graham Presbyterian Church with Rev. Michael Bean officiating. Visitation will be at Sawyer ~ Pickett Funeral Home on Monday evening from 4 to 8 pm with a Masonic Service at 7:00 pm and on Tuesday at the church from 10 am until the time of the service. The committal service will be at the Vernon Cemetery with military honors being provided by the United States Army and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2021.
