Billie Callahan, 84, of North Vernon, passed away at 5:55 a.m. on Monday, May 13, 2019, at Majestic Care.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service. Rev. Phillip Elliott will officiate. Burial and military graveside rites will be in Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. and continue until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Born August 3, 1934, in Slemp, KY, Billie was the son of Culty and Lizzie (Polley) Callahan. He married Sandra Layman on December 17, 1982. She survives.
He served as a member of the U.S Navy from 1955-1959 as an Engineman Third Class. He retired from Cummins, Inc. after 38 years. He was a member of Tea Creek Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to the casinos, his church and family.
Billie is survived by his wife, Sandra Callahan of North Vernon; three sons, Jeff (Leyl) Callahan of Georgia, Kevin Callahan of Seymour and Steve (Lora) Callahan of Scipio; step-daughter, Melissa Leonard of North Vernon; sister, Marjorie Roberts of North Vernon; brothers, Lloyd Callahan of Corbin, KY and Harold "Moe" Callahan of North Vernon; fourteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Lori Turner; sister, Goldie Kennedy; and brother, Jack Callahan.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Our Hospice of Jennings County or North Vernon Vet-To-Vet.
