Mrs. Betty Marie DeWitt

Betty Marie DeWitt, 90, of North Vernon, passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at her residence.

Born May 21, 1923, in Bridgeport, IL, Betty was the daughter of the late Stanley and Marie Lenon Starkman.

She graduated from Bridgeport Township High School in 1941. She married Eldon DeWitt on August 8, 1952. He preceded her in death on December 25, 1988.

Betty retired from Muscatatuck State Developmental Center, where she had been employed as an attendant. She had been a member of Otter Creek Baptist Church. She enjoyed her grandchildren, her birds, reading and her dog, Buddy.

Survivors include two sons, Dirk DeWitt of North Vernon and Larry Johnson of Indianapolis; eleven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eldon; and a daughter, Nancy Lessing.

Funeral Information

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2013, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service. Rev. Richard Burcham will officiate. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. Burial will be at Otter Creek Cemetery.
