Bettie Jean Eckels, 88, of North Vernon, passed away at 6:10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no service.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service.

Born November 30, 1927, in Indianapolis, Bettie was the daughter of the late Fred and Pearl (Geissler) Lieman.  She graduated from Osgood High School in 1945.  Bettie was a 60+ year member of Eastern Star.  She loved reading, birdwatching, sewing and quilting.

Bettie is survived by two daughters, Cinda Lewis and Paula Eckels of North Vernon; two sons, Richard (Becky) Eckels of Kannapolis, NC and Michael Eckels of Indianapolis; one daughter-in-law, Judy Eckels of Indianapolis; one niece, Phyllis McKittrick of Versailles; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Pearl Lieman; one sister, Helen Voris; and one son, John W. Eckels.
