Obituary

Barbara Allen Riddle, 73, of Butlerville passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2026, at Schneck Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

Barbara was born on May 21, 1952, the daughter of Edward Allen and Vera Van Horne Mitchell in Columbus, Indiana. She married Clyde Riddle June 24, 1988.

Barbara was a proud and dedicated member of the North Vernon Chapter #183 of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as an elected officer. This rich involvement reflected her commitment to community and service, fostering connections that brought joy to her life and the lives of others.

Creativity flowed through Barbara's veins. She was an exceptionally crafty individual, excelling in woodworking, candle-making, and crochet. Her artistic spirit was complemented by her completion of a challenging curriculum with the Art Instruction Schools of Minneapolis after finishing high school. Barbara transformed her unique ideas into tangible creations, bringing beauty and warmth to her home and those of her loved ones.

Above all, Barbara was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She found immense joy in her family, which includes her loving spouse Clyde Riddle, daughters Kelly Hatton, Katyna Schiller, and Jackie Jones, sons Bradley Schiller, John Riddle, and Jimmy Riddle. Her sons-in-law and daughters-in-law, including Randall Hatton, Niki Riddle, and Crystin Schiller also held a special place in her heart. Barbara cherished her grandchildren-Brittany Neal, Emma Riddle, Candace Lewis, Samantha Allen, Joe Jones, and Denver Riddle-along with her great-grandchildren Hunter Neal, Harper Lewis, Aunyx and Alfie Allen.

Barbara was an active member of the Otter Creek Baptist Church, where she found community, friendship, and the strength of faith, enriching her life with shared worship and fellowship.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Barbara's remarkable life. Public visitation will be held at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service on Friday, January 23, 2026, beginning at 11:00 AM, followed by an Eastern Star Service at 12:30 PM. A funeral service will take place at 1:00 PM, with burial to follow at Rush Branch Cemetery. Rev. Debbie Black will officiate.

Barbara Allen Riddle will be remembered not just for her accomplishments and crafts, but for her vibrant spirit, unwavering love for family, and the many lives she touched throughout her time here. Her legacy of creativity, community service, and devotion to loved ones will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. Barbara is also survived by her dear brother, Allen Mitchell of Seymour; her nephews, Eddie Mitchell and Rick Stillabower; and her niece, Michelle Rhodes.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Vera Mitchell; sisters, Roberta Stillabower and Lucille Boswell.
