Barbara Ann Ertel, 83, of North Vernon, passed away at 4:00 a.m. on Monday, March 19, 2018, at Premier Healthcare.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2018, at St. Mary's Catholic Church.  Rev. Jerry Byrd will officiate.  A rosary service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service.  Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Born August 3, 1934, in Sumner, IL, Barb was the daughter of the late Harry and Helen Lenz Barnthouse.  She married William F. Ertel, Sr., on August 20, 1955.  He preceded her in death on January 29, 2013.

Barb had retired as a teacher's assistant from St. Mary's School and Jennings County Schools.  She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the church choir and had faithfully served in the Adoration Chapel from its opening until her health would not allow.  She enjoyed reading, the Cincinnati Reds and supporting her children and grandchildren's many activities and athletic events.

She is survived by a daughter, Helen (Jeff) Brunner of North Vernon; three sons, Bill (Sharlot) Ertel, Joe (Kathy) Ertel and Ed (Paula) Ertel all of North Vernon; twelve grandchildren, Michael (Amie) Brunner, Jessica (Matt) Pearson, Nick (Meagan) Brunner, Alana Thrine, Ashley (Lucas) Newsom, Annie (Matt) Walker, Abbey (Zach) Hicks, John (Paylee Douglas) Ertel, Keri, Emily, Luke and Elizabeth Ertel; and ten great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; two sisters, Mary Eileen Voss and Clara Elizabeth Sullivan; and three brothers, Harry Barnthouse, Jr., Julius and Donald Barnthouse.
