Barbara Derringer, 85, of North Vernon, passed away at 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at Majestic Care of North Vernon.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 2, 2022, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Rev. Dan Corbin will officiate. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the start of the service at the funeral home.

Born on May 3, 1937, in Beattyville, Kentucky, Barbara was the loving daughter of Samuel and Laura (Sipes) Mays. She was united in marriage to Louis Derringer on March 11, 1956. He preceded her in death on December 11, 2003.

Barbara had worked 25 years for Regal Rugs retiring in 1999. She was a member of the Weston Baptist Church. Barbara enjoyed mushroom hunting, playing cards, fishing, working crossword puzzles, and reading books. Most of all she cherished spending time with her family and friends.

Barbara is survived by son, Randy (Lisa) Derringer of Deputy; daughter, Tammy (Jeff) Yocum of Vevay; sister, Marlene Bohall of Commiskey; brothers, Ronnie Mays of Vernon, Dudley Mays, and Fred Mays both of North Vernon; grandchildren, Travis, Nathaniel, and Justin Derringer, Cathy Vincent, Brad Hendrix, Brandy Cardinal, Mayetta, and Jeffrey Yocum, Timmy Calvert, and Jessie Olul; great grandchildren, Lyrik, Sarah, Emma, and Alexis.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Laura Mays; husband, Louis Derringer; son, Sam Derringer; sister, Donnie Spicer; brothers, Larry, Jack, and Bob Mays.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the family for expenses.
