Arthur A. Shafer, 83, of North Vernon, passed away at 4:15 p.m. on November 12, 2020, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

There will be a private graveside service held at the Vernon Cemetery at a later date. Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service are entrusted with the arrangements.

Born on October 6, 1937, in Brown County, Arthur was the son of Ira and Pauline (Loy) Shafer. He was united in marriage to Janice Ward on October 6, 1957. She survives.

Arthur had worked most his life at Shafer Trucking, but he retired from Coca Cola where he was a Diesel Mechanic. He was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Columbus. He enjoyed spending time making memories with his family.

In addition to his wife Janice Shafer of North Vernon, he is survived by daughters, Teresa Moore of Columbus, and Rhonda (Kevin) Day of Columbus; sons, Kevin (Laurie) Shafer of Columbus, and Brett Shafer of North Vernon; sisters, Karen (Roger) Neptune of Columbus, and Loretta (Harold) Greene of Columbus; nine grandchildren; several great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Pauline Shafer; sister, Connie Lowe.

Memorials can be made through the funeral home to the family for expenses.
